		<description>Thanks for the encouragement - by "prune some renewal spurs" do you mean leave 2-3 buds for next year's growth, or get rid of any and all extraneous offshoots?</description>

		<description>Geoffrey, you can use some of the canes to develop the structure of the vine, there's nothing wrong with that.  Just make sure you use strong enough canes and prune some renewal spurs close to the trunk of the vine as well.

Should I cut all of the canes back and leave only the strongest central trunk (more a branch, really) or can I keep some of the horizontal canes to try to get some fruit this season?  The plant is 3-4 years old, and did bear fruit last year.</description>
