		<description>Geoffrey, you can use some of the canes to develop the structure of the vine, there&#039;s nothing wrong with that.  Just make sure you use strong enough canes and prune some renewal spurs close to the trunk of the vine as well.

Should I cut all of the canes back and leave only the strongest central trunk (more a branch, really) or can I keep some of the horizontal canes to try to get some fruit this season?  The plant is 3-4 years old, and did bear fruit last year.</description>
